Village trips

Cheetah Plains is actively involved in the surrounding local communities of Utah and Dixie. A visit to these neighbouring villages will give you insight into the rural South African way of life, allowing you to meet the village elders and share in the exuberance and enthusiasm of the villagers.

Visit the Manyeleti community

Student Movement for Real Change (SMRC) is a non-profit organisation registered in the United States that has been working in Manyeleti for six years. SMRC has a formal relationship with the Buffelshoek Trust and Djuma and welcomes contributions, which it uses to help improve lives in the community.

If you live in the United States, donations for the community should be given to SMRC to ensure you get a tax deduction for your gift. You can send cheques to 1807 18th St, NW, Washington, DC 20009 or donate online at www.StudentMovementUSA.org.

The Buffelshoek Trust is a South Africa based non-profit organisation that was initiatied in 2001 with the aim of uplifting the lives of the Manyeleti community. To date, together with our partners, the trust has spent over R20-million on projects in the area. Donate online at www.buffelshoektrust.co.za.

Together, we have:

  • Supplied water to two villages
  • Fed 2 500 kids a day
  • Built three crèches and 40 classrooms
  • Constructed five libraries and four admin blocks
  • Constructed three sports fields
  • Installed electricity in a number of schools
  • Built a bakery and sewing unit.
  • Installed 200 computers in seven schools and spent R1-million a year on training
  • Set up seven agricultural projects that provide up to eight tons of vegetables a year in some schools
  • Built a clinic and community centre
  • Set up community health projects, including talks on HIV/Aids by local clinicians

While at Cheetah Plains Private Game Reserve, you can visit the Manyeleti community with a qualified guide to gain an inside perspective on the community’s way of life. The four-hour excursion is always informative and inspiring.
