About Cheetah Plains

Cheetah Plains Private Game Reserve is located in the famous Sabi Sand Game Reserve in South Africa -  where Africa’s Big Five – leopard, lion, African elephant, black rhinoceros and Cape buffalo – and more roam freely.

Cheetah Plains Private Game Reserve is roughly 850ha in size but our extensive traversing rights with neighbouring reserves – which include Buffelshoek, Torchwood and Vuyatela – give you access to almost         12 000ha of pristine African bushveld and breathtaking wildlife.

Cheetah Plains was originally part of Djuma Game Reserve, which was owned by the Moolman family. In November 2008, Japie van Niekerk (owner of New Africa Developments) bought the reserve and, in 2010, it officially became Cheetah Plains Private Game Reserve.

When you’re not out on one of your twice-daily safaris spotting big cats, bush babies, hyenas, rhinos, hippos, African wild dogs if you’re lucky, eagles, vultures and owls, you will be kicking back at our beautiful and comfortable lodge. Our eight thatched chalets are set in indigenous gardens and offer wonderful privacy. At night you can literally hear the call of the wild as lions and hyenas set out on the prowl.

Our facilities include a swimming pool, massage room, internet access, library and television room, bar and more. We employ 30 staff members – including highly skilled guides and trackers – to ensure that your every need is taken care of. All you need to do is arrive; we take care of the rest.

In May 2012, we are closing for 3 months for refurbishment and alterations.
